665 horses and more than 300 riders ready to go in the first week international

Competition continues until the 2nd of November and includes a 19 team Nations Cup round

Tomorrow the first week of top intencional competition starts here at the fifth Andalucía Sunshine Tour with 665 horse and more than 330 riders all ready to take to the arenas here at Montenmedio. Around 500 horses will take part in the 3* international this week whilst the rest will be participating in the Young Horse classes.

 

The Tour truly is an international event and although there are 159 Spanish registered horses jumping: Ireland has 72; Germany 39; Great Britain 36 and the USA, Belgium, Sweden, Portugal and Switzerland all have more than 20 horses each participating. Among the most notable names that we are delighted to welcome are of course, Ireland's Cian O'Connor and his compatriots Susa Fitzpatrick; Dermott Lennon; Niamh McEvoy and Max and Tom Wachman; Switzerland's Anthony Bourquard; Belgium’s Thomas de Wit and Zoe Hank Conter; Austria's Max Kühner; Brazilian, Pedro Veniss; Germany's Jana Wargers; Britons Tim Gredley and Joe Whitaker; and American, Paris Sellon.

 

Tomorrow the vet check will take place for all horses participating in the show. Horses in stabling areas A&B, will be inspected in arena 4 between 08:30 and 10:30 with the first 15 minutes reserved for stallions. Re-inspection will be from 10:30.  In arena 12 the horses stabled in Zone C will have their inspection between 10:45 until 11:45, with stallions being presented in the first ten minutes of the session and any re-inspections will take place from 11:45.

 

Competition in the CSI3* 1.45, will be held in the main grass David Broome arena;  the 1.40 in arena 5 Milton; the 1.35 in arena 8 Baolubet du Rouet and the 1.30 will be in arena 18 Big Star. The Young Horses of all ages (5, 6 and 7) will all jump and their courses will be 1.15, 1.25 and 1.30 respectively.

 

There are three Ranking classes planned for the weekend, starting with the 1.45 held on both Friday and Saturday, and the 1.50 class on Sunday.

 

After this week competition really escalates as the 3* Nations Cup, with 19 teams will be held and in the last week of competition there is a CSI4* as a highlight to finish off this year’s Andalucía October Tour.

 

Entrance to the showgrounds is free as is parking. There is plenty of top sport to watch and a large commercial zone with shops, a good choice of restaurants and as a whole the installations offer a really family friendly day out.
