João Victor Castro Aguiar Gomes de Lima, sped around this 2Ph class today, stopping the clock in the second phase, in a remarkable time of just 26.11s on the 12yr old bay gelding, Charon van Moeshof, who is by Diamant de Semilly. The rider, who is ranked 177 in the world, really laid down the gauntlet over the course designed by Cedric Longis. Stepping up to the plate was Irish rider Jack Ryan, he was riding DSH Lucky Junior, a grey 8yr old gelding who shows great potential for the future and who finished in 27.47s. In third was El Ghali Boukaa with A Kyss, adding yet another top finish to their tally here at the Tour. In fourth was another Irish rider, and a previous Grand Prix winner here at Montenmedio, Niamh McEvoy with Pablo C.
The 1.40m La Equina, Small Grand Prix was a Longines Ranking class, with 83 entries, and was always going to be a very competitive class. In the end 22 competitors went through to the jump off and Irish phenomenon, Michael Pender was our winner with a stunningly fast round, stopping the clock in under 40s, the only rider to do so. He was riding the lovely 8yr old mare, HHS Savanna who is owned by Marion Hughes and who is by Dignified Van’t Zorgvliet, her dam is from the same stud, HHS Central Park and the dam sire is Don Juan de la Bouverie. Indeed this was not the only class Michael won today here at the Tour as he also was top of the 1.35m class, with Highcross Violet; and there was more success for the Hughes family, with Marta Hughes-Bravo winning the 1.30m class with Miss Belgium 111.
Second place behind Michael in this Small Grand Prix class, was Filipe Malta da Costa from Portugal, with Iwan B and third was Brazilian Felipe Guinato with Gandalf Mouche.
In second place in the 1.35m 2PhSp, again chasing Michael’s time of 29.36s, was top British rider Jodie Hall Mcateer with Chica VH Ven Z who stopped the clock in 32.22s. Third in this class was Henk van de Pol, from the Netherlands, with No Fathers Girl.
Behind Marta in the 1.30m FT class, were two local Spanish riders, Carlos Bosch Cebrian with Adagio de Mies and Kurt Ghesquiere with Leda de Mies.
The 1.20m FT was won by Matilde Rodrigues with Inzaghi. Second was Rachele Rinaldini with Mangus del Sole and third was Isabella Beecroft Luckett with Exception.
In the 1.10m 2Ph Sp, British rider Eleanora Ljungman was first with Artful Trinity, and also third with Jamaica EBH. Slipping into second was Portuguese rider, Francisco Miguens Malta da Costa with Chine de B’Neville.
In the CSIYH, the 7yr old class was a 1.35m FT today and was won by Lugana III who really stepped up the field today from last week. Lugana III is ridden by the Belgian, Gilles Borgonjon she is by Luchador, dam sire is Colbert GTI. In second was another mare, California 151 who is by Celestial, dam sire Askari 173 and ridden by Leonie Böckmann for Germany. In third was Mika, ridden by Michelle Kenny from Ireland.
The 6yr olds, jumped 1.30m in a 2PhSp. The top two were British today, Joseph Trunkfield top of the podium with Chacoona Blue PS (Chacoon Blue). Second was Jake Saywell with Night Star JB (Comme Il Faut) and in third was Irish, Oisin Dillon with the gelding, Tangilo Wi Ro Z.
5yr olds jumped 1.20m today in a 2PhSp class, and our winner was Belgian rider, Cassandre Malherbe with Like a G6 MKM Z. Second was Finnish rider, Venla Keränen with Courage and in third was Jose Antonio Garcia Diana with YCH Happy.
Tomorrow is the last day of the October Tour here at Montenmedio and we celebrate it with ten classes in the CSI3* and the CSIYH*. The highlight of the day will be the Grand Prix which will be 1.55m and held in the David Broome arena This prestigious class is a Longines Ranking class and counts towards the European Championships 2025. With this week’s top riders and horses taking part it promises to be a fitting climax to the Andalucía October Tour 2024.
