Charlotte Bettendorf wins the first big class of the week with ‘Con Vados’
Carmen Edwards with ‘Happy Valerie’ and Lea Fondevik Syversen with ‘Ambra’, complete the podium places
Today the CSI2* and the CSIYH* started up here at Montenmedio, these classes continue until Sunday and are the intermediate week here at the XXIX Andalucía Sunshine Tour, which is kindly sponsored by the ‘Consejería de Turismo, Cultura y Deporte’ and co-financed by the European Union.
The 1.45 2Ph. Sp. was held in the Milton ring and our winner was Charlotte Bettendorf, from Luxembourg , with the nine year old, ‘Con Vados’, who is by ‘Connor 48’, dam sire ‘Quo Vados’. They finished their round in 32.61s, in front of the British rider, Carmen Edwards with another nine year old, the lovely mare, ‘Happy Valerie’, (‘Verdi TN’ x ‘Dutchboy’) who finished in 33.20s. In third was Norwegian rider, Lea Fondevik Syversen with ‘Ambra’ (‘Quintender 2’ x ‘Grandeur’); in fourth was the well known British rider, Ellen Whitaker with ‘Jericho’ (‘Berlin’ x ‘Dollar de la Perre’) and in fifth, Dutch rider, Sanne Thijssen with ‘QH Babalou Santo Antonio’ (‘Balou de Rouet’ x ‘First de Launay* HN’).
The French rider, Valentin Besnard continued his podium successes from last week, in the 1.40 class, which was held in the same arena. He was riding ‘Eros de Carville’ (‘Nippon D’Elle’ x ‘First de Launay*HN’). Second was, another podium regular, the German rider, Kendra Claricia Brinkop with ‘Ma Belle’ and, in third was the Spanish rider, Rubén Gómez Crespo with ‘Caelios de Roumard’. Fourth and fifth were taken by British riders, Emma Stoker with ‘Daisy’ and Matthew Sampson, with ‘Wadro’s Higgins’. This was the busiest class of the day with 90 participants.
There was an Irish victory in the 1.35 from Ciaran Nallon with ‘Showoff AF Z’ (‘Solid Gold Z’ x ‘Lamm de Fetan’), who stopped the clock, in this FT class, in the very fast time of 61.64s, leaving the French rider, Guy Jonqueres D’Oriola and ‘Calvie 4’ in second place on 64.04s. In third was the British rider, Marnie Darcy Green with ‘Ice Cold Z’; fourth, Spanish rider Luis Ortiz Agüera with ‘Easo J’ and in fifth was another Irish rider, Daniel Mc Alinden with ‘AHG Whiterock Doctor Cruise’.
The British dominated the podium in the 1.30 with Will Edwards and ‘Magic Chanti’ our winners; second was Moroccan, Farid Amanzar with ‘Churchill Z' slipping in between the two Brits, who took third and fourth; Chris Smith with ‘Chaplin De Leau’ and Elizabeth Baker with ‘GK Casper’. In fifth was Spanish, Hugo Álvarez Amaro with ‘Olina van de Looise Heide’.
Again there was a strong British presence in the 1.20, Emma Stoker won the class with ‘Q Seven’, followed by Olivia Banks with ‘Lahelien W’. The rest of the podium was Spanish, Natalia Appendino took both third and fourth places with ‘Millfield Cliche’ and ‘Altesse du Domaine’ and Miren Melgosa Borde was fifth with ‘Halloween’.
In the young horse classes: the 7yr olds was won by Alix Ragot (FRA) with ‘Gold Sky de Pegase’ and he also took fourth place with ‘Gracieuse de Laume’. In second was Kendra with ‘Oak Grove’s Heartthrob’ and third was Italian, Luca Moneta with ‘Guchi Montdesir’. There were 46 in the class and 33 clears.
The 6yr olds had 51 entries and 37 went clear and in the 5yr olds, there were 14 clears from the 21 entries.
Competition continues tomorrow with the same selection of classes, as we build up to the highlight of the week, on Sunday, the FEI, Longines Ranking class.
