Competition returns to Dehesa Montenmedio with an exciting start to the October Tour

It was a day of excitement, adrenaline and emotion once again here at Dehesa Montenmedio on the slopes of Vejer de la Frontera, as the three week long, international show jumping competition kicked off, and will run until the 3rd of November.

Today the three week long CSIYH* began, alongside the CSI3*, the latter which will take a break during the second week of the Tour.  This makes way CSI2*and the CSIO3*, both held from October 23rd to the 27th.

After the obligatory veterinary inspections early this morning, the CSI3* started up the event with the 1.35m class where the French rider Jules Orsolini had the fastest time with the grey, Verdoso’s Electra. In fact it was a French top two in the class with Stanislas de Malet taking second on another grey, Hector de Laubry Z and in third was the young rider, Liv Linssen and the mare Lyn.

Turkish rider Hasan Senturk and Avant Toi were the winners of the 1.40m class with one of our previous GP winners, Irish, Niamh McEvoy closely behind on Bp Limitless. Third place went to the Belgian rider, Mathieu Bourdeaud'Hui and the KWPN, Levall.

In the 3*, 1.30 class (2Ph Sp), the top two were Irish; Marta Hughes-Bravo with Miss Belgium 111 and Spanish, Sofía Dolegowski with an excellent round on the veteran Athina de la Lande.  Jesús Garmendia Echevarría, the runner up in the 2024 Spanish Championship here last week, and Faslco PS, completed the podium.

The top class today was the 1.45m, held in the David Broome grass arena.  This was an exiting speed class with many clears from riders chasing the clock.  In the end the winner was the Spanish rider, Jorge Bidón Daurella with the mare, Donatella du Landel. Hot on his heels was Emily Dehoff with Manou de Muze, for the USA and for the Netherlands in third, was Rogier Linssen with the young mare, a CDE, Moneypenny.

The CSIYH* ran alongside the CSI3*, and there were some very exciting rounds. In the 7-year-old category, held in the Milton arena, there were very few faults. Robin Lesqueres was the winner of this 1.30m 2Ph Sp, with Hilton de Riverland. Second place went to the Dutch pair Anouk de Ruijter and Moviestar. Portuguese, Gonçalo Ribeiro Pinto, was third with Ikarus 373.

There were 22 clears in the 1.25m 6-year-old class from 50 competitors.

In the 1.15m, 5-year old class there were 28 horses taking part with 13 clears.

And finally the pony 0.60m, Regional Pony Class,  was held with the Young rider from Asturias, Ana Ocaña having two super clears on her ponies Charlot and Rosa Zeta Cem.

There are many more days of jumping for equestrian fans to enjoy and entry to the showgound, and parking is free.  We would like to thank;  the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport and the European Union for co-financing the event, and the Cadiz Provincial Council.
