Almost last to go in the first Longines Ranking class this week, was the German rider, Helmut Schönstetter with the 11yr old mare ‘Toulanda Degli Assi’ by ‘Toulon’ x ‘Nabab de Reve’. They started off their week here at the Andalucía Pre Sunshine Tour, winning this 1.45 speed class in great style, stopping the clock in 65.84s and knocking Armando Trapote off of the top spot with ‘Karl P’ (‘Carrera VDL’ x ‘Burggraag NV’).
The Spanish rider stopped the clock in 67.24s taking second place with a cracking round and held the lead for much of the class. Also finishing in under 70s was the Belgian rider, Nathan Budd who was third with ‘Touardo Blue Z’ (‘Toulon’ x ‘Arko III’) and another German rider, Jen Baackmann with ‘Casapettit PS’ (‘Casallco’ x ‘Baloubet du Rouet’). In fifth place was Venessa-Joy Nägele with ‘Koko’ (‘Kashmir Van Schuttershof’ x ‘Horsefeed LTD’) from Liechtenstein.
There was a Spanish win for Carolina Aresu García Obregón in the 1.40, with her own the 10yr old gelding, ‘Funny Star du Park’, by ‘L’ Arc de Triomphe*Bois Margot’ x ‘Kannan’, continuing this pair’s great results, not touching a pole so far here at the Tour and coming second in the 1.45 here last Saturday.
The top five was completed by Portugueses; Antonio Matos Almeida with ‘Clair Matin PS’; Hungarian, Laszlo Toth with ‘Toll Central’; German, Kendra Claricia Brinkop with ‘Eau de Vie Jeleena DR Z’ and Spanish, Pilar Cordón Muro with ‘Pica Pica Z’.
Antonio Matos Almeida, also had a great day with a win in the 1.35 with ‘Fitzroy’ who he also won the 1.30 with last week. Today they stopped the clock in 55.70s, really flying around the course and almost 2 seconds ahead of the rider taking second place; Laszlo Toth with ‘Ching’. Israeli, Uri Burstein was third with ‘Chacca Keeps II’; fourth British, Chad Fellows with ‘Continent 7’and fifth, Pilar Cordón cerró el podio with ‘Espoir de Toxandría Z’.
There was another Spanish win in the 1.30, from Jorge Bidón Daurella with ‘Duska’. Second and third was Chad Fellows with ‘Incognito Baio’ followed by ‘NPS Klooney’. Fourth was Spanish, Jaime Astolfi López with ‘Land Ho Mister Mars’ and fifth was Antonio Matos with ‘Ballyengland Logic’.
In the Young Horse classes; Hungary took top spot in the 7yr olds, ’Karolina’ (Kannan’ x ‘Accarat’) with Laszlo Thoth on board was the winner in this 2PhSp. ‘Arizona Ospa Z’ with British rider, Alfie Bradstock was second with Kendra Brinkop riding two of her horses into top positions, third with ‘Sir Diamant Horta’ and fifth with‘Sniper Des Lilas Blancs’. Sliding neatly in to fourth were ‘Invictus Du Vilpion’ and Pedro Mateos Bernáldez.
So that was the start to the second week here at the Andalucía Pre Sunshine Tour, which is sponsored by the Consejería de Turismo and Andalucía Exterior de la Junta de Andalucía and by the Diputación Provincial de Cádiz. Tomorrow competition continues here at Montenmedio with five classes in the CSI3*, including a Longines Ranking class and the 5yr old horses will have their first competitive class this week.
