Today we crowned this year’s first Spanish showjumping Champion taking place here at Montenmedio as a part of the of the fifth Andalucía October Tour: ‘Com Cerena SB Z’ is the winner of the 6yr old Young Horse championships and was ridden by Guillermo González Alonso. ‘Com Cerena SB Z’ is a mare by ‘Comilfo Plus Z’ x ‘Contendro I’ and took gold in an eight horse jump off.
‘Esmeralda de Zabala’ with Rocío Lázaro Alonso took silver, actually repeating their place last year in the 5yr old championship and ‘Esmeralda’ with Leonardo Medal Rionda took bronze.
The González de Zárate brothers were dominant in todays second classifier for the Absolute Spanish Championship, taking the top two places. Álvaro was the winner with ‘Casa Diva PS’, stopping the clock in this 1.50 Chase class in the David Broome arena in 80.20s; whilst Kevin was second with ‘Chinixen’ in a fraction under two seconds behind. Third was Iván Serrano Sáez who continues a brilliant start to his Championship challenge with ‘El Punkto’ and holds his lead in the overall standings. Todays results see Alvaro and Kevin move up into second and third places on 1.23 and 2.13 respectively with Jesus Bamonde close behind on ‘Agr Trouble Maker’ on 2.84, a real shake up of the results from yesterday.
In the second qualifier for the Young Riders Elena Appendino and ‘Pompei Van de Fruitkorf’ had the fastest round followed by Juan Riva Gil with ‘Victoria D’Argent’ and María García-Pertusa Bodega with ‘Gitalyn’. In the overall classifications Juan Riva Gil holds his lead thanks to a double zero and Elena Appendino sits in second place on 3.43. In third is María García-Pertusa who climbed up the leader board after a clear today and now sits on 4.61. Patricia Astiz Cámara with ‘Dulcinee Platiere’ also had a good day and moved up into fourth place after a clear round and now sits on 6.60.
In the Classic, 1.40 section, Luis Fernández Gil-Fournier and ‘Ordesa’ beat off a challenge by a tenth of a second, from Javier Gutiérrez Rilo with ‘Merina Star’ in this second qualifier round. José Antonio García Diana was third with ‘Marola’.
Javier Gutiérrez Rilo is first in the overall standings on just 0.05. Jesús Torres García with ‘Diabetto PS’ sits in second with 1.25 and Luis Fernández, today’s winner, sits in third on 1.89. Álvaro González de Zárate, who was yesterday’s leader moves down to ninth place after a pole down, added four to his total.
In the Classic, 1.20 section, 18 riders still sit on double clears after the second qualifier, where the winner was María Infante Espinosa with ‘Jativa del Val’. Paula Parras with ‘Corobicho’ was second and José David Caraballo with ‘Leew’ was third.
Carolina Marsa Wamsteker with ‘Hope D’Emiralia’ was the winner of the second classifier in the Classic 1.10, hot on her heels was Abraham Rodríguez Barberán taking second place with ‘Lac Leman HT’. In third was Ana Pérez Martín with ‘Juno de Llamosas’. There are thirteen riders that move on to the final tomorrow who all sit on zero.
In the second 5yr old qualifier, a class sponsored by the Royal Hideaway Sancti Petri, it was ‘Honeysuckle MV’ who took the top of the podium with Eugenia Martínez de Vierna’. In second was ‘Unesse van het Beetjen’ with Adolfo Espinosa González and in third was ‘Jackie Kennedy’ with Eduardo González Estebanez. 17 horses pass on to the final with double clears.
Competition continues tomorrow with a really busy day of jumping and five Championship finals. The 7yr old Young Horse final will be held in the David Broome arena. The other finals for the Classic Championships, 1.10, 1.20 and 1.30 and the 5yr old Young Horses will all be in the Milton arena.
