Irish top rider, Billy Twomey and ‘Lady Lou’ win La Equina Small GP
British Matthew Sampson, is second with ’MGH Candy Girl’ and third is Spanish Sergio Alvarez Moya with ’Charisma HS’
Despite being first to go and taking an early lead in 1.45m, La Equina Small Grand Prix class today, British rider Matthew Sampson was pipped at the post in the end by the very talented Irish rider, Billy Twomey on the fast mare, ‘Lady Lou’ who stopped the clock in just 32.51s ahead of Matthew and ‘MGH Candy Girl’s’ time of 32.84s. This really exciting class was designed by Leopoldo Palacios Jugo from Venezuela. The jump off saw Billy riding a textbook round on this 14yr old, who is by ‘Lord Z’, out of a ‘Caesario’ mare and owned by the rider himself, and Sue Davis. This left Matthew in second place on the 10yr old ‘MGH Candy Girl’ who is by ‘Sligo Candy Boy’, dam sire ‘Cruising’ and owned by Isabel Fox.
Coming in third was the Spanish rider, Sergio Alvarez Moya with ‘Charisma HS’, who is owned by Hugo Simon; fourth was the Dutch rider, Kevin Jochen’s with ‘Christianus’ and in fifth was the French rider, Edward Levy with ‘Broadway de Mormoulin’. Prizes were handed out by Miguel Valdés, the medical director of the reference hospital La Equina.
In the Big Tour 1.35, British, Emma Stoker once again shone, winning the class with the ten year old gelding, ’Q Seven’, who is by ‘FRH Quaid’ x ‘Stakkato’. This pair have had outstanding results here at the tour, they were second yesterday in the same class and have seven wins in their other classes and so far ’Q Seven’, has not touched a pole! Today Emma won in 54.92s way ahead of the Finnish rider, Aura Vasama with ‘Fayot’ who finished in 57.08s. In third place was the Portuguese rider, Duarte Seabra with ‘L-Piccola’.
There was a Spanish win in the Medium Tour 1.40 from Jesús Garmendia Echevarria with ‘Ulises del Pomar’, in just under 60s. The British took second and third places; James Smith with ‘Good Friends’ followed by Alex Bishop with ‘Thomascourt Emirates’.
There was a win for Sweden in the 1.30 de Medium Tour, from Jacob Hellström with ‘Starline’; Portuguese rider, Antonio Matos Almeida was second with ‘Diamant de Landor’ and in third was the French rider, Aurelien Leroy with ‘Croqsel de Blaignac’.
In the Small Tour 1.45, the top four were Spanish, Leticia Riva Gil with ‘Cadum de Champloue’; Pello Elorduy Ibarzabal with ‘Champenoise de Rampan’; Mario Rotllant Daurella with ‘Diferencio van het Lindenhof Z’ and Gabriela Roger Ibars with ‘Houdini’.
Also in the 1.30, the top two were Spanish, José Fumero Hernández won the class with ‘Figuier du Roc’ and Jimena García Rueda was second with ‘Diane du Val’. In third was Swiss rider, Charlotte Fievet con ‘Dis Donc d’Eole’.
In the CSI1* there was a British whitewash, with wins from Rebecca Middleton with ‘Last Thought’ in the 1.30; Arianna Kuligowski with ‘Ivascalle’ in the 1.20 and Vicky Lovegrove with ‘Babel’ in the 1.10.
Spanish riders, Ismael García Roque with ‘London’s Bella’ and Eduardo Álvarez Aznar with ‘DPS Camelot’ took the top two spots in the 1.45 8yr old class.
These are the main results from today at the Andalucía Sunshine Tour, which is sponsored by the ‘Consejería de Turismo, Cultura y Deporte’ and co-financed by the European Union. Tomorrow the sixth week of the tour concludes with a very busy day of jumping, this includes the Suzuki Grand Prix which is a Ranking class and a qualifier both for this year’s Europeans and the Paris Olympics 2024.
