Pedro Mateos Bernaldez with ‘Altamira de Casavieja’, for Spain had the fastest time in the very competitive 7 yr old class
German rider, Kendra Claricia Brinkop is a regular presence here at the Andalucía Sunshine Tour and today in the XXXI edition, she stated off with a great win in the CSI2* 1.40 Accumulator with the only time under one min. Kendra rides for the CSI2* Stephex Stables and today her mount was the lovely mare, ’MA Belle’ (‘Ugano Sitte’ x ‘Bayard D’Elle’) stopping the clock in 59.09s. In second was Portuguese rider, Nuno Tiago Gomes with ‘Chaccora’s Stakko PS’, who is by ‘Chacco-Blue’ x ‘Conthargos’ from Paul Schockemöhle, in 62.58s. Another German rider was third, Jens Baackmann with ‘Casapettit PS’ (‘Casallco’ x ‘Baloubet du Rouet’), Belgian Pieter Clemens was fourth with ‘Farenheit de Beaufour’ (‘Diamant de Semilly’ x ‘San Patrignano Cassini’) and fifth was Swedish rider, Antonia Andersson with the mare from Yeguada Valbanera ‘Bella PS’ (‘Messenger’ x ‘Contendros 2’.
This wasn’t the only great result for Pieter Clemens today. Moving up from his fourth spot in the 1.40, he went on to win the the 1.35m speed class with the 8yr old mare, ‘Marissa’, who is by ‘Vigaro’ x ‘Livello’. Second and third places went to British riders, who both had a great day at the office in various classes; Chloe Winchester with ‘Korlenski’ and Chad Fellows riding ‘Continent 7’; Portuguese rider, Antonio Matos Almeida with ‘Clair Matin PS’ and Spanish rider, Nicolas Bidón Daurella with ‘Cuantas de Torres’ took the remaining places in this class.
Antonio Matos Almeida was also on the podium in the morning, winning the 1.30 class with ‘Fitzroy’ (‘L’Amour du Bois’) where many other aforementioned riders also had great results. Chad Fellows was second with ‘Incognito Baio’ and also fourth with ‘NPS Klooney’; Kendra Brinkop was third with ‘Chinook Pommex Z’ and Chloe Winchester was fifth with ’Chakensa PS’ and sixth with ‘Kardamie van de Crumelhaeve’.
Spanish riders dominated the 7yr old class today with Pedro Mateos Bernaldez taking first and third places with ‘Altamira de Casavieja’ and ‘Invictus du Vilipion’ respectively and Mickey Seaquist slid neatly into second place with ‘Leonard T&L Z’.
And so we start up the new edition of the Sunshine Tour, the event is sponsored by the Consejería de Turismo, the Andalucía Exterior de la Junta de Andalucía and the Diputación Provincial de Cádiz. The event will run until the 23rd of March and has more than 1,000 riders with 3,200 horses from 57 countries taking part.
Over the nine weeks of intense competition there are more than 550 classes, 38 of which are FEI Longines Ranking classes. There will be 2.5 million euros in prizes. This year there is also a CSIO for Young Riders and Juniors and all this will run alongside the dressage which is once again in the programme of the event.
Access to the facilities is free and there are many places on site to eat, there is a commercial area for shopping, and parking in designated car parks is free and close to the action.
