Luca Moneta wins the first Longines Ranking class

The second day of international competitions continued today, with the CSI3* taking centre stage under the Cadiz sun

Jumping today began at 9:00 with the 1.30 metre class, where the very young French rider, Scarlett Dentressangle took the win with Echo du Galopin; in second was the Turkish Hasan Senturk with Hammond J and third was another young rider, Daniel Ocaña Sánchez with Mauriaan de La Lande.

Top of the field in the 1.40, held on grass in the Hickstead area, was Michael Pender on the veteran Highcross Violet. Lisa Nooren with Langley HX and Marco Kutscher with Origi van de Maltahoeve completed the podium. Held in the Baloubet du Rouet arena the 1.20 accumulator class was very popular with more than half of the competitors obtaining top scores;  Isabella Beecroft-Luckett took first place on Conrad Sunheup Z, second was Amelia Banks Clark on Hocan (by Eldorado VD Zeshoek) and the veteran Irish rider, Gerard Campbell was third with Coldplay (Contendro I).

The 1.45m, Hipotels Trophy, was the first Longines Ranking class, and was the highlight of the day.  Italian rider, Luca Moneta-El with Capone RK had the fastest clear in the David Broome arena, closely followed by Francis Derwin, who was second with his horse Flexi K and third place went to Joseph Trunkfield, with Grennanstown Sarco Lux Hill.

The first 1.10 metre class of the CSI3* was won by the Spanish rider Inés Rodríguez Arias with Ragga Muffin. Second and third places went to riders: Kristina Sumina with Bellevue Celestial and Isabella Beecroft-Luckett, once again on the podium today.

The 6yr olds had a rest day today in the CSIYH*. The 5-year-old horses had their first competition after yesterday’s ‘contact’ class and today they competed in the 1.15m, two-phase special.  Gonçalo Ribeiro Pinto was the winner with Oakley Raijminka. Michelle Kenny took second place on CFH Capri Hill; followed by Marco Litterscheidt in third place, on Astronaut L.

In the 7-year-old class, set to 1.35 metres, Jack Ryan and Mondavi flew around and took a confortable first.  Olympic rider Katharina Offel was second on the Hanoverian Baloutina HB and Irish rider, Elian Baumann stopped the clock a few milliseconds later on New Money SDW Z.

At the close of the day the Regional Pony tests took place with Lucas Hernández González winning both the 1.10 and the 0.80-0.90 metre categories. In the 1.00 metre category, Jimena Trapote Blázquez was first, and in the 0.60 metre category, Ana Ocaña repeated her results from yesterday this time winning on Rosa Zeta Cem.

The October Tour is sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, and co-financed by the European Union and the Cádiz Provincial Council.

This morning the winner of the ‘Create Your Jump’ competition was announced.  This competition gave participants the opportunity to design their own jump which will be used in the top classes at the Andalucía Sunshine Tour 2025. The winner was 13yr old, Kiko Halas, who designed the best entry: a vertical jump, inspired by traditional tuna and fishing here in Cádiz. The jump fuses the essence of this region with the equestrian world. In the next edition of the Sunshine Tour, we will see this jump in the main arena, 3 (David Broome) here at Dehesa Montenmedio.  This grass arena is where all the top classes are held and the top international riders will be competing.
