Maximilian Weishaupt sets the pace at the Andalucía Sunshine Tour

Vejer, February 6, 2026

A full-on day of sport at the Andalucía Sunshine Tour saw Germany’s Maximilian Weishaupt steal the spotlight with a top-level win in the feature class of the day. Spanish riders claimed one victory, courtesy of Kevin González de Zárate.

A smooth-running schedule and high-class sport defined the day at Dehesa Montenmedio. No fewer than 15 classes were held across six arenas, including three Big Tour classes, four Medium Tour, three Small Tour, two CSI1*, one Young Horses class and two regional competitions.

Nearly fifty combinations lined up for the 1.50m Big Tour, a Longines FEI Ranking class. Over a demanding track, Weishaupt delivered a sharp round with DSP Omerta Incipit to take the win, edging out a proven partnership: Dutch star Sanne Thijssen and the seasoned Con Quidam EB, who finished second. Fellow Dutch rider Michael Greeve completed the podium aboard Rubens. Spain’s best result came from Pilar Cordón, sixth with Pica Pica Z.

In the 1.45m Big Tour, Britain’s Holly Smith topped the class with Sing Z, followed by Edouard Schmitz (SUI) on Agassi Z and Chloe Winchertter with Casacenta Petra PS. The Big Tour wrapped up with the 1.40m, where Germany’s Gerrit Nieberg claimed victory with Solaia.

Medium Tour: Spanish win for Kevin González de Zárate

Spain’s sole victory of the day came in the 1.40m Medium Tour, featuring over 60 starters. Kevin González de Zárate took the top spot riding Helsinki, while his brother Álvaro González de Zárate placed third with Andy Star K Z, underlining the competitive edge of both riders.

Álvaro repeated his third-place finish in the 1.45m Medium Tour, another Longines FEI Ranking class, this time with Coralin 8, in a field of 80 combinations. The win went to Belgium’s Louis Lambrecht aboard Lady O. Belgian colors also led the 1.35m, won by Olivia Goemaere with Red-Flame L.

Small Tour and CSI1*: international flair

In the Small Tour, the standout 1.40m went to Britain’s Pippa Goddard with PDV Constanza, a Spanish-bred mare registered in the CDE studbook. Spain’s José Antonio García Diana finished a strong fourth with Marola P&M.

The 1.35m was claimed by American rider Mia Albelo on MHS Cardenta, with Spain’s Elena Appendino third aboard Grupo Prom Hacienda. The Small Tour concluded with the 1.30m, won by France’s Carla Illiano on Goldikova de Kreisler, ahead of Spain’s Virginia Lezama-Leguizamón.

Two CSI1* classes rounded out the international action. In the 1.20m, split into two groups, France’s Olympe Zouin Virag topped Group 1 with Drasco, followed by Spain’s Manuel Román Álvarez on Chacco’s Magic. Group 2 was led by Victoria Sprogis, the Maltese rider based in Spain, with Mad Max. The 1.10m went to Britain’s Alfie Bradstock riding Gladstone.

Young Horses and Regional classes

In the 8-year-old Young Horse class, Narcing, ridden by Gerrit Nieberg, posted the fastest clear from a massive field of 99 starters. Spain’s Arezzo de Llamosas (CDE), with Álvaro González de Zárate, secured an excellent second place.

The programme was completed with two regional Pony classes. The 1.20m went to Britain’s Emily Gulliver on Lucky Choice, while the 0.90m was won by Dutch rider Sammy-Jo Selten with Hoekhorst Jewel.

The Andalucía Sunshine Tour is sponsored by the Junta de Andalucía, through the Ministry of Tourism and Andalusia Abroad, and the Provincial Council of Cádiz—institutional backing that continues to strengthen the Tour’s international profile and its sporting, economic and tourism impact in the region.
