Michael Hughes wins the Royal Bliss , Small Grand Prix with ‘Conan van Koningspolder Z’

Commandant Geoff Curran wins, the 1.45 with ‘Tempo Manor’

American rider, Michael Hughes rode the eight year old stallion,  ‘Conan van Koningspolder Z’ to take the win today, in the 1.40  Royal Bliss Small GP class here at the XXIX Andalucía Sunshine Tour, sponsored by the ‘Consejería de Turismo, Cultura y Deporte’ and co-financed by the European Union.

 

It was a challenging track built by Elena Boix, with 57 participants and just 6 going through to the jump off, time being a factor in the first round. In the end five riders chose to jump against the clock, Michael has been competing with this lovely bay here in the 8yr old classes and this is their best placing so far.  The lovely stallion made the track look effortless, he is owned by Stephex Stables; sire, ‘Corydon Van T&L’ and dam sire, ‘Pachat II’. They stopped the clock in 42.29s a time that the last rider to go couldn’t quite top. This was the young British rider, Olivia Banks with the lovely grey mare, ‘Geodina HS’. The great partnership between these two was clear to see as the 12yr old mare, by ‘Bodinus’, x ‘Corland’, jumped a super round, stopping the clock in 42.44s and taking second place.

 

In third place was Dutch rider, Eric Jr. Van der Vleuten with  ‘Chapper’ (‘Chap II’ x ‘Asti Spumante’), the only other pair to go clear, his time was 48.03s. In fourth and fifth were Swiss rider,  Lea de Coulon with ‘Goldfinger Z’ and the Irish rider, Jonathan Smyth with ‘Mulvin Lights Out’.

Prizes were handed out by Beatriz Codes, Chief of Public Communications and Sustainability. RSO of Coca-Cola, EuroPacific Partners.

 

In the biggest class of the day there was a win for Irish, Commandant Geoff Curran with ‘Tempo Manor’. Second was Spanish rider, Rubén Gómez Crespo with ‘Allblack de Gressoux’; third, Charlotte Bettendorf from Luxembourg with ‘Con Vados’; fourth, French rider, Alix Ragot with ‘Faraday de Carva’ and in fifth was British, Matthew Sampson with ‘Wadro’s Higgins’.

 

The 1.35 ,was won by the Belgian rider, Cyril Cools with ‘Coryfee T&L Z’; second was Irish rider, Ciaran Nallon with ‘Showoff AF Z’; third Spanish rider, Hugo Álvarez Amaro with ‘Olina Van de Looise Heide’.  The top three in the 1.30 were British, Chris Smith with ‘Chaplin de Leau’; Swedish, Alexander Zetterman with ‘Global Renaissance’ and British,  Glain Watkin Jones with ‘La Vie Est D’Or’.

 

Swedish rider Jannie Canovill was the winner of the 1.20 with ‘Donnafugata’ and also took third place with ‘Costaire PS’. Slipping into second place was British, Olivia Banks with ‘Lahelien W’.

 

Top two in the 1.10 were British. Megan Broadway with ‘Stella Butterfly Z’ and Will Edwards with ‘Dominica OS’. Third was Spanish, Carmen Bernal Medina with ‘Ipanema DC’.

 

The winners of the young horse classes today were Alix Ragot in the 7yr olds with ‘Gold Dky de Pegase’; in the 6yr olds, Brazilian, Katty King with ‘Ronermus Van Het Weyenshor’ and in the 5yr olds, the Portuguese rider, Nuno Martins with ‘Orion de Nogales’.

 

There are six classes tomorrow, with the highlight of the week, the Clip My Horse, Longines Ranking Grand Prix.
