Pedro Mateos Rodríguez, Paula Azofra and Nerea Gómez, Spanish Classic Champions of 2022

‘‘Best In Time DK Z’ with Kevin González de Zárate wins Gold in the 7yr olds and ‘Dalia de Maset’ with Imma Roquet in the 5yr olds

Tomorrow we run the last Finals of the Spanish Showjumping Championships; the Absolute, the Young Riders and the Classic 1.40m

 

After a sunny and very busy day of jumping here at the Dehesa Montenmedio, five of the nine sections in the Spanish Showjumping Championships have been resolved. The winners in three sections of the Classic Championship were Pedro Mateos Rodríguez, Paula Azofra and Nerea Gómez in the 1.30, 1.20 and the 1.10m respectively.  In the 5yr old Young Horse Championship, ‘Best In Time DK Z’ ridden by  Kevin González de Zárate took the Gold and in the 5yr old Championship the winner was ‘Dalia de Maset’, with Imma Roquet.

 

In the 1.30m Classic Spanish Championship, Pedro Mateos Rodríguez took Gold with ‘Valdelamadre Ilhala’ after a very competitive jump-off in a time of 39.53s. The other four riders in the class, could not beat this time and in Silver was Rubén Gómez Crespo with ‘Caelios de Roumard’ clear in 42.16s, with Bronze going to Ángel Cerdido Calderón riding ‘Visir de Olid’, who had four faults in 44.33s.

 

Paula Azofra García is the new Spanish Champion in the Classic 1.20m section, with her 11yr old mare, ‘Happy Day’ (‘Neal Deal G’ x ‘Maya du Ry’).  The pair won the class after an exciting jump-off of just six competitors. Paula and Carolina Marsa Wansteker, who was riding ‘Andi D’Emiralia’ (‘Diamant de Semilly’ x ‘Hurlevent’), had the only two clears and Paula’s faster time, just 40.33s, put her on top of the podium with Carolina winning the Silver medal.  Bronze was won by Virginia Lezama-Leguizamón Acha and ‘Elinka de Riverland’, who had the fastest of the four faults, just 40s dead.

 

Nerea Gómez Pérez was the winner of the 1.10m Classic section with Beroy D’Uhart’ and the only pair to finish the Championship without penalties.  In the jump-off they jumped for Gold against Alejandra Botín who was riding Baccarat de Lasca, and who at that time was also without penalties.  Nerea jumped clear in 33.93s and Alejandra had one pole in a time of 41.87s.

In the jump off for Bronze there were five riders, who all began on four faults. In the end it was Manuel Román Álvarez with Grantender who was clear in  33.72s.

 

The 7yr old Spanish Showjumping Champion is ‘Best In Time DK Z’, the gelding owned by Añón Team Horses SL by ‘By Cera D’Ick’, dam sire  ‘For Pleasure’.  This class had an exciting jump off for Gold, where the two brothers, from the family González de Zárate were the protagonists. The brothers were the only riders to finish the championship on just four penalties. In the end the winner of the class was ridden by Kevin whilst Alvaro riding ’A.N.Barney’ (Heras Horses), took the Silver, finishing just a second behind his brother.Bronze was won by ‘Paco VD Bisschop’ ridden by Álvaro Díaz García, who had just one time fault in the first round today; that placed them on a sum of  5 faults and out of the jump off for Gold.

 

In the 5yr old Championship the Yeguada Maset (stud) added another medal to their tally in these championships, with  ‘Dalia del Maset’ (‘Diamant de Semilly’ x ‘Indret del Maset’) who was ridden by her breeder Imma Roquet Autonell.

 

The mare was also a winner a few weeks back in the Ancades competition, was one of four in the jump off today in the Milton arena, and had the fastest clear in the jump-off just 38.92s. In second place was the mare  ‘Helia de Maeza’ from Finca de Maeza, (‘Quasar de Olid’ x ‘Colman’) with Juan Carlos Rodríguez Fernández, clear in 42.55s segundos taking Silver

 

The Caballo del Deporte Español (CDE) ‘Calima de Capellán’, ridden by Guillermo González Alonso, took Bronze place with two poles falling in the double.

Jumping continues tomorrow as the Final day of the Spanish Championships is held for the Absolute, the Young Riders and the Classic 1.40m sections.
