Photographic exposition celebrating 30 years of the Andalucía Sunshine Tour

With more than 270 photos across the years, the exposition will be on show at Montenmedio until the end of the Tour

More than 270 photos in 18 display panels take you on a journey through time, showing the evolution of the installations here at the Andalucía Sunshine Tour. The event is sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Government of Andalucía, through Tourism and Sports of Andalucía.

Right from the very first Tour, where there were three venues, Montenmedio, Sotogrande and Marbella back in 1995, and thanks to an idea with great foresight from David Broome and the strong commitment and belief in the project from Don Antonio Blázquez; we are now the biggest equestrian installations in Europe and the Andalucía Sunshine Tour has evolved along a long and interesting path which you can follow in these panels and which con be found in the commercial area.

The growth and improvements here at Montenmedio have been consistent across this span of years but there were some key developments that really changed the nature of the Tour. One of these was the construction of 969 temporary boxes, installations and arenas, back in 1999, an area which is known locally as Sicalet, and this is the current hub area of the Tour to this very day. In 2018 another big development was the new competition zones, which allowed the number of horses attending the Tour to be more than doubled to 2000 at one time.

But the Andalucía Sunshine Tour is really about the people and of course, the horses that attend. They give the Tour its characteristic friendly nature and we have dedicated a few panels to our riders and their teams who form an integral part of the rich history of this prestigious International sporting event.

“We are very excited about this special anniversary and we wanted to develop a series of complementary activities that reflect our growth,” explains Teresa Blázquez, who adds that “the exhibition is a comprehensive sample of how these 30 years have been and we believe this is a lovely way for everyone who comes to the Andalucía Sunshine Tour this year, competitors or visitors, to appreciate how we have become what we are today.”

“I especially want to thank Luis García Poncela and all the team at Ecuestre, for their tireless efforts in helping us find the photographs that form such an important record of our history here”  she continued.

A thank you which was extended to the rest of the collaborating photographers who participated in the exhibition, Moisés Basallote, Equus Media and MacKenzie Clark; to the Chiclana company in charge of its development, Wake Up Creaciones, and to the Vejer City Council, for the loan of the panels in which the exhibition has been installed.

This is just one of the main activities planned in the special agenda for the commemoration of the thirtieth anniversary of the event this year, There is also a documentary and a special poster and trophies created for the event by the Jerez artist based in Seville, Balcris. Balcris has also designed and created some beautiful and colourful sculptures which are installed around the venue and he has painted a new jump which will be used during the Tour.
