Rumanian, Andrea Herck wins the 1.40 with ‘Epsilon de Roulard’ on the first day of the ASST2024

Today we started nine weeks of competition, where more than 2,000 riders and 3,500 horses from 60 countries will take to the arenas at Montenmedio

The 30th edition of the Andalucía Sunshine Tour kicked off today in style. The event is kindly sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Government of Andalucía, through Tourism and Sports of Andalucía. The first competitors to take to the arenas were the Young Horses and the CSI2*. In the biggest class of the day, the 1.40 FT our winner was Rumanian rider, Andrea Herck with the 10yr old mare ‘Epsilon de Roulard’, who is by the amazing stallion ‘Upsilon’, dam sire ‘Exploit de Roulard’ and who is owned by Molirent BVBA. This pair won with apparent ease in this speed class against around 30 other competitors. They stopped the clock in 66.70s beating the Dutch rider Mel Thijssen into second place with  ‘Cartolana 2’ in 68.31s. Third was Italian Stefano Nogara with ‘Esi Everest’. Completing the top 5 places were Spanish riders, Elena Appendino with ‘Grupo Prom Hacienda’ and Luis Ortiz Agüera with ‘Hvedholms Cashew’.

 

Italian Luca Moneta with long term partner, ‘Chilli 41’ had  the fastest time in the 1.35, followed by Polish rider Maksymilian Wechta with ‘Quinchell’. The rest of the top placings were taken by British riders, Alfie Brastock with ‘Cayello’; Ava Vernon with ‘Billy Trysil’ and James Wilson with ‘Vuitton of Picobello Z’.

 

The 1.30 was where the Spanish riders shone today with the winner María Sainz de Rozas and ‘Coryphee des IFS’, followed by Pedro Mateos Bernaldez with ‘Naroby Van de Furitkorf’; Patricia Segura took fourth with ‘Valseuse de Terlong’ and fifth was Castora Ortiz Agüera with ‘Joapke’. In third place was our 1.40 winner, Andrea Herck this time riding 'Roulard's Poker’.

 

 

The Young Horse classes results: ‘Solana PS’ ridden by Pedro Mateos Bernaldez won the 2 phase 7yr old class in 23.76s, with Luca Moneta hot on his heels with ‘Njves’;  just 0.06s behind. ‘Radjamerci Van de Vlasbloemhoeve’ also finished in under 24s and took third with James Wilson.

 

This was the start of the 30th edition of the Andalucía Sunshine Tour, which will be a very special occasion and which runs until the 24th of March. The Tour is proud to have his Majesty, King Felipe VI as the Honorary president of the event.

 

In this Tour there will be six CSI4* Grand Prix, that will take place in February and March and are important qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the 2025 European Games. This promises demanding competition with the presence of top Longines ranked riders in attendence, such as Swiss, Steve Guerdat; Austrian, Max Kuhner; Irish, Bertram Allen; Belgian, Gregory Wathelet; British, Scott Brash; Spanish, Eduardo Álvarez Aznar, French, Penelope Leprevost and Swedish Petronella Andersson.
