A time of 68.70 seconds secured a brilliant victory for Swiss rider Alain Jufer and his 14-year-old horse ‘Dante’, son of ‘Diarado’ x ‘Luxius’, in the Ayuntamiento de Barbate Trophy, the highest class of the day at the Andalucía Sunshine Tour. The event is sponsored by the Junta de Andalucía, through the Consejería of Tourism and Andalucía Exterior, as well as the Provincial Diputacion of Cádiz.
Belgian rider Gilles Thomas, riding ‘Elfra Van Beek Z’ (‘El Salvador’ x ‘Vagabond de la Pomme’), once again placed among the top rankings. After finishing third yesterday, today he secured a well-deserved second place, being the only rider, along with the winner, to break the 70-second barrier in this 1.50 competition held on the main David Broome grass arena and qualifying for the FEI Ranking.
Moroccan rider El Ghali Boukaa finished third with ‘A Kyss’, a 15-year-old daughter of ‘Diamant de Semilly’. Dutch rider Sanne Thijssen took fourth place with ‘Con Quidam RB’ (‘Quinar Z’ x ‘Cardino 5’), while French rider Nicolas Sers completed the podium with ‘Eleven de Riverland’ (‘Kannan’ x ‘Diamant de Semilly’).
All winners received their trophies from representatives of the Ayuntamiento de Barbate: Mayor Miguel Molina and council members Juan Miguel Muñoz, Paco Ponce, Gema Rivera, Ana Valencia, and Conchi Cla.
Meanwhile, German rider Jens Baackmann claimed victory in the the Medium Tour 1.45 Ranking Class, riding ‘Cinderella’, a 9-year-old mare by ‘Casallco’ x ‘Heartbreaker’. It was a closely contested win, as the second-place finisher, Graham Gillespie with ‘Veneno’ (‘Chacco-Blue’ x ‘Baloubet du Rouet’), was just one-thousandth of a second behind, and two-thousandths behind was third-place finisher, French rider Penelope Leprevost with ‘Djagger Semilly’ (‘Apache D’Adriers’ x ‘Richard Levallois’). Belgian rider Thibault Philippaerts took fourth place with ‘Gift des Lunes’, while Spanish rider Luis Ortiz Agüera finished fifth with ‘Hvedholms Cashew’.
Spain secured a victory in the 1.45 Big Tour thanks to Kevin González de Zárate and ‘Chinixen’. The Top-5 was completed by Dutch rider Sanne Thijssen, who took her second podium of the day, this time with ‘Lolandria Z’ (‘Lux Z’ x ‘Quidam de Revel’); German rider Kendra Brinkop with ‘Eau de Vie Jeleena DR Z’; Belgian rider Andres Vereecke with ‘Cuba Libre Van Paemel Z’; and Dutch rider Roosje Brouwer with ‘Dudock Z’.
In the Small Tour 1.40, the winner was the Moroccan rider Farid Amanzar with ‘Churchill Z’ (‘Clinton’ x ‘Toulon’), followed by Swiss rider Peter Burri with ‘Dubai 64’ (‘Chin Champ’ x ‘Casall’); French rider Apolline Cozien with ‘Dicosie De Clemaline’ (‘Kannan’ x ‘Fergar Mail’); Spanish rider Leticia Riva Gil with ‘Amaretto du Surgeon’; and Italian rider Francesco Correddu with ‘Agrado’.
In the Medium Tour 1.40, Belgian rider Pieter Clemens was the fastest in the second phase with ‘Marissa’, followed by Kevin González de Zárate with ‘Dream Boy D’Aiguilly’ and once again Leprevost with ‘Galatee Dark AA’.
In the Big Tour 1.35, Czech rider Albert Pisarik took the win with ‘Chapo 2’, followed by Belgian rider Roy Van Beek, who secured both second place with ‘Celebrity – H’ and third place with ‘Charleston – H’.
Spanish rider Carlos Bosch Cebrián claimed victory in the Medium Tour 1.30 with ‘Adagio de Mies’, ahead of Dutch rider Britt Van Erp with ‘Vosje’ and British rider Chloe Winchester with ‘Exited Z’. Meanwhile, Irish rider Cathal Daniels with ‘Rioghan RUa’, Moroccan rider Soukaina Ouddar with ‘Colibri de Hus Z’, and Spanish rider Marta Garat Macías with ‘Nasa del Amor’ were the best in the Medium Tour 1.20.
Another Spanish victory came in the Small Tour 1.30, with Jose Bono Rodríguez taking the top spot with ‘Santa Ana HT’. Swiss rider Noah Philips de Vuyst finished second with ‘Rembrandt Van Het Keysersbos’, while Belgian rider Stephanie Servais took third place with ‘Extreem Van Het Schanske Z’.
Finally, Moroccan rider Alia Benbrahim won the Classic Tour 1.20 with ‘Erocco’, while her compatriot Safia El Bied secured victory in the Classic Tour 1.10 with ‘Astrait de Hus’.
