Today the highlight of the whole week was the very demanding Longines Grand Prix class, the Andalucía Grand Prix. The results from this prestigious class count for the European Senior Championships 2025. With the 60 top riders of the week taking part, ten went through to the jump off and the winner was the young Belgian rider, Mathieu Bordeaud’Hui with Oscar The Homage, for Belgium in just 38.10s.
After his win, Mathieu told us: “When I walked the course for the first round I knew it would be difficult, but OK, we made it to the jump off. Last week I was second, I had a good plan for last week but it didn’t go like I wanted. But now, again, I also had a good plan and now it went good. I’m very happy, my horse is just ten years old and I think I have I could have a great future with him, so yeh, we will see how it goes”. Oscar The Homage is stallion, by Quint VH Maarlo Z from an Arko III mare and is owned by Krismar stables.
Mathieu went on to say that : “The course was quite difficult. It was I think ten clears out of 60 so that’s not so many (much) — There were two lines, from one to two you could do seven or eight (strides), I did seven, plus, to the last jump, it was a very long seven, but OK, I knew my horse has a big stride so he easily made it. I think that’s why I won my title”.
In second place in 38.85s, was Irish rider, a favourite here at the Tour, Cian O’Conner with Bentley de Sury, a horse by Sunday de Riverland, and who top Spanish rider ,Eduardo Alvarez Aznar used to ride. Third and fourth places were taken by French riders. Nicolas Sers and Eleven de Riverland and Charlotte Leoni with Miss Marie Van’t Winnehof.
In the 1.40m, CSIO3 Sanne Thijssen was back on the podium for the fourth time, today with with QH Babalou Santo Antonio. Second and third were the Italian riders, Andrea Messersi with Karmina de Nyze Z and Giampiero Garofalo with Qui a Vu Merelsnest.
In the 1.40m CSI2*, the winner was Spanish, Jesús Garmendia Echevarría with Coco Star des Gy, their second win this week and tenth podium placing so far. Anthony Bourquard was second with Fifty Fifty Delacense and once again, Sanne was once again on the podium, this time with Keiralanda VDM.
In the CSI2*: 1.35m class, once again we saw Michael Pender on top of the leaderboard to add another win to his list so far. Today Highcross Violet came in over five seconds faster than Mario Prieto and Pegasus Jappeloup who were second. Third was Sofía Dolegowski with Athina de la Lande.
In the 1.25m class, Marta Hughes-Bravo continued her run of success, this time with Miss Belgium 111 taking the top spot, coming in, in front of José David Caraballo Recio with Leeuw and Sara María Hank Guerreiro with H5 Cadiva.
In the 1.10m the top two were British riders, Eleanora Ljungman repeating her win from last week, this time with Jamaica EBH, followed by Berenice Cerruti with E'Diostra Il Palazzetto. In third was Khalid Nasser Al Khater with Billyjean.
In the regional pony classes the winners were Jimena Trapote Blázquez and Espoir du Chene. (1.10m), Angelina Zweig and GVK Ringo Star. (1.00m) and Carlos Hernández González withTop Diorella du Logis (0.80-0.90).
We are back on Thursday the 31st October here in Vejer and have an action packed schedule planned including Longines Ranking classes and another point qualifier, for the 2025 European Senior Showjumping Championships. The October Tour is Kindly sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, and co-financed by the European Union and the Provincial Council of Cadiz. Competition ends on Sunday the 3rd of November.
