After a well deserved weekend off, 293 young horses returned to the arenas for the start of the fourth week of competition. The standard of the jumping was high and the horses clearly demonstrated their steady progression over the last weeks.

106, 5yr olds jumped for the first time in the Ratina Z arena which was named after this wonderful horse, who passed away 9 years ago.  In the Barcelona Olympics he won the individual silver medal ridden by Piet Raymakers and then moved to Ludger Beerbaum’s stable.  With Ludger he won the individual gold medal in both the European Championships in 1997 and also in the World Cup Finals of 1993.

In the 7yr old classes there were some new faces from the Spanish riders , namely Carolina Aresu and Rutherford Latham, who both jumped good clear rounds.  The arena for this class was named after Guarana Champeix, a horse previously ridden by Rutherford and who regularly jumped together here at the Sunshine Tour.  This pair did very well in both the Nation’s and the World Cups; also winning the 2007, Spanish Championships.

Omer Karaevli riding “Gotham City” and Jérôme Guery with “Massimo” were the winners of the two sections of this class (A and B resp).

The 6yr old classes started off well today,  with a large number of horses jumping good clear rounds.
