The XXVII Sunshine Tour brings together more than 2,000 horses,400 riders and 40 different countries

The XXVII Sunshine Tour brings together more than 2,000 horses, 400 riders and 40 different countries during seven weeks of competition at the most important jumping tour in Europe.

All competition will be held behind closed doors with no public attendance and under a strict security and hygiene protocol laid down by the Higher Sports Council (Consejo Superior de Deportes)

Dehesa Montenmedio is all set up ready to begin the XXVII Edition of the prestigious Sunshine Tour, the most important European showjumping tour.  The Tour begins on 9th of February and ends on the 28th of March with over 2,000 horses, 400 riders and 40 different countries taking part.  The show will be run following strict protocols that have been drawn up by the Higher Sports Council and the Royal Spanish Equestrian Federation (Real Federación Hípica Española) in order to avoid any risks associated with Covid-19.

Apart from the sanitary measures imposed due to the pandemic with the competition being held without public attendance and behind closed doors: the main new feature of this Tour is the addition of a new week of competition, resulting in a total of seven weeks of top international jumping with 38 Ranking classes and over two million euros in prize money to be won.

The Sunshine Tour has truly become an international benchmark on the showjumping calendar.  It is the largest Tour in Europe with more than twenty grass and sand arenas here at Dehesa Montenmedio.

The XXVII Edition is patronised and supported by both the Andalucian Regional Government’s Tourism Council and the Cádiz Provincial Council.  A very prestigious and large group of companies also sponsor the Tour and it may boast  to be a competition that attracts extensive media coverage all around the world with fans in over 200 countries and an audience estimated at around half a million people.

A study by the University of Cadiz has show that the Tour also has an extremely important economic impact on the area of La Janda and generates 1,200 jobs both directly and indirectly and brings more than 25 million euros into the area.

The Sunshine Tour complies with ‘action protocol’ that has been laid down by the Ministry of Health and the Higher Sports Council for the celebration of sport events.  This allows competitions included in the official calendars to go ahead as planned. In addition to this, the Tour is further endorsed by being set down in the official calendar of the International Equestrian Federation, whose dates are already closed.  The Tour is also part of the qualifiers for the European and World Championships and the Olympic Games.  All these facts make the Tour an important part of the international sports calendar and render it an essential part of international sports planning which is respectfully allowed to go ahead.

In order to guarantee safety for everyone at the Tour and to ensure there are no risks the organisers have established a strict procedure based on the guidelines from the Ministry of Health, the Higher Sports Council and the Royal Spanish Equestrian Federation.  As such the event is held without public attendance and behind closed doors.  Competitors and members of their teams are obliged to have a negative Covid test result, taken no more than 72 hours before arrival and only limited numbers of people will be allowed in to the installations at any given time.  Of course disinfection of all common areas during the day will continue, new air purifiers have been installed and it is obligatory to use masks at all times, the hydro gels frequently and to be aware of and maintain the security distance.
