The Young Horses start off the week in fine style here at the Sunshine Tour

With 425 horses jumping today it proved to be a busy start to the second week of competition here at Montenmedio

Today was all about the Young Horses here at the Tour. The quantity of entries was especially high with three rings running simultaneously. The number of British participants was especially high with 54 riders competing on 124 horses.

Amongst the numerous top competitors in the 7yr old section were the Italian riders. Luca Moneta finished in second place with “De la Vie” and Alberto Zorzi who is training his new mare “Noblesse VD Mespel Z”. Another Italian combination was the winner of this 1.30m, two-phase class, Gloria Curzola. Moneta has introduced two new mares "Hermione  del Beiro" is a 7 y/o mare breed by Ernesto Tognocchi, the owner of Allevamento del Beiro. They produced some good horses like "Ambra del Beiro" that I rode in the big classes and now is ridden by Julie Wells. "Jolie Coeur D'Avril" is a 6 y/o mare (Arko x Nabab de Reve). Se was born and breed in Switzerland. I met her owner in Geneve and after I won a competition she promised me she will give me the best horse of her breeding and so here is Jolie, an amazing mare. I really love both mares. They are in my stable since the beginning of their career but this will be the first time I compete with".

The Belgian rider Ignace Philips de Vuyst rode a very fast ‘second phase’ in Group B of the section coming top of the 77 competitors.

National, Spanish riders competing today included the Absolute Spanish Champion and Young Rider Champion, Canarian rider, Ismael García Roque; Ismael is based at Alvarez Moya Horses. Also Roi Calviño, who is based with Pablo Dominguez Piñon. Both above riders had successful rounds with their young mounts in the “Baloubet du Rouet” arena. Carolina Aresu Obregón, Gerardo Menéndez and Álvaro González de Zárate were also out competing here in Vejer de la Frontera.

Bit by bit the stables are filling up here at Montenmedio with 1,600  horses already comfortably installed.
