World Number two Martin Fuchs does it again, winning the Ranking class, this time with ‘Che Tipa’

Paris Sellon was second with ‘Anna Jo’; a top two result for the owners, Willow Grace Farms. In third was Teresa Blázquez with ‘Nasa de Toxandría’

Number two in the World Rankings, Swiss rider, Martin Fuchs, once again demonstrated why he is world renown, with an elegant round winning today’s Longines Ranking class; here at the Andalucía Pre Sunshine Tour 2023, sponsored by ‘la Consejería de Turismo, Cultura y Deporte' and co-financed by the European Union.

 

In this 1.45 (FT) class, he rode the lovely, nine yr old mare, ‘Che Tipa’, who he has been building up over the past week, and who is by ‘Caseo Della Caccia’ x ‘Ogano Sitte’ and owned by Willow Grace Farms. Not only did these owners have reason to celebrate with this win, but coming in just behind, to take second, was another one of their horses, the 14yr old mare, who has won many a rosette here at Montenmedio, ‘Anna Jo’ (‘Acodetto 2’ x ‘For Pleasure’) with her regular partner, the American rider Paris Sellon who has just arrived at the show.

 

Just a fraction of a second behind was resident rider, Teresa Blázquez Abascal with another top mare, ’Nasa de Toxandria’ (‘Vertigo Saint Benoit’ x ‘Chopin Van Het Moleneind’), who also placed second yesterday in the 1.40.

 

Swedish rider Jacob Hellström was fourth with ‘Chuck Bass’ and fifth was the Dutch rider Mark Martens with ‘Iwan’.

 

There was a Spanish win in the 1.40 (2Ph Sp) with Elena Appendino taking the top of the podium with ‘Grupo Prom Hacienda’ (‘Coltaire Z’ x ‘Libertino’). They stopped the clock in 26.68 seconds, followed by Hungarian rider Rodrigo Szuhai with ‘Cornet’, in  28.32 seconds. Ismael García Roque from Spain, was third with ‘Halifax W’.

 

Georgina Burchmore-Eames with ‘Kept Secret T’ took the top of the podium for Britain in the 1.30, followed by Anastasia Nielsen, from Monaco with ‘Buffy 53’ and Finnish rider Erika Hanhisuanto with ‘Stellaria’.

 

Spanish riders Alejandra Botin Lehm with ‘Baccarat de Lasca’, and Manuel Román Álvarez con ‘Grantender’ were the winners the 1.20 and the 1.10 classes.

 

In the young horse classes there was a clear win for Canadian rider Kara Chad with the very fast, ‘Gability Van de Eijkhof Z’. These two really shone in this competitive 7yr old class, easily taking their third victory and finishing well over six seconds in front of the nearest competitor in a time of 61.61. Second was British rider, Daisy McKinlay with ‘Donder Slage’ in 68.45 seconds and in third, was the German rider, Helmut Schönstetter with ‘Eic Arwen’ in 70.49 seconds.

 

In the 6yr olds once again Rodrigo Szuhai rode ‘Carta Blue SZ’, to win this class for a second time so far here at the Andalucía Pre Sunshine Tour 2023. Canadian rider Kimberley Martens took second place with ‘Madarena WD’ and, Gyula Szuhai Jr. also from Hungary, with ‘Cornet’s Blue SZ’, took third place.

 

In the 5yr olds, British rider, Megan James with ‘N.Corofina Texel’ was first;  second was Erika Hanhisuanto with ‘Ascalina D’Ive Z’ and third, Spanish rider Alejandro Fernández with ‘Nozem’.

 

We continue tomorrow with four CSI2* classes and three young horse classes. Jumping commences at 10:00 and will finish around 17:00.

 

The showground is open to spectators and access and parking are free. Not only can you visit and watch top class showjumpers at their best but there is a shopping village and there are numerous restaurantes to sample, all affording unique views of the different arenas.  If you are unable to attend, jumping is streamed live on our web site, www.sunshinetour.net on the Sunshine Tour app and on ClipMyHorse.
