Three thrilling jump-offs crowned the winners of the first finals for 5-, 6-, and 7-year-old horses at the Andalucía Sunshine Tour, held at the magnificent facilities of Dehesa Montenmedio.
Young horses took center stage in a day that featured the finals corresponding to the first part of the international circuit for 5-, 6-, and 7-year-olds. The 8-year-old final will take place on Friday. The sporting level was outstanding, with strong participation in each category and winners representing three different studbooks, reflecting the diversity and genetic quality present on the circuit.
Arena 1 (Hickstead) hosted the 7-year-old final, with 85 contenders vying for victory. The technical and demanding course consisted of 13 obstacles and 16 efforts, including a triple combination (vertical–oxer–vertical) and a double (oxer–vertical).
Seventeen horses advanced to the jump-off, although the two horses that arrived unbeaten with seven clear rounds—Jazzon de Laumae, ridden by Isaie Abittan, and Nouba Nouba de Septon—were unable to join the final battle.
Among the qualified combinations, Jivago de Brekka stood out. The son of VDK Glasgow vh Merelsnest out of a Ustinov mare, ridden by Spain’s Kevin González de Zárate, once again produced a faultless jump-off round to finish in a commendable fifth place.
Six combinations completed the competition with double clears. Victory went to Oploo, a KWPN gelding by Zambesi TN, ridden by Joshua Hutchins. Second place was claimed by El Ly F Z, a daughter of El Barone 111 Z, with Maverick van Lent, while Jelka Mouche (Excalibur de la Tour Vidal GFE x Calvaro), ridden by Grégoire Hercelin, completed the podium.
Arena Milton (No. 5) was the setting for the 5-year-old final. Forty-four of the 49 horses that met the minimum requirement of four clear rounds took part. Five of them had completed all seven previous rounds without penalties.
One of those horses was Reider, who once again demonstrated outstanding consistency and competitiveness to secure victory. The son of Vangelis S out of a Vleut mare, ridden by Senna Everson, put the finishing touch on three brilliant weeks.
Minni Egg MDS (A. Umonia 60 x Glidawn Diamond), ridden by Molly Davies, and Golden Earring (Cello vd Bisschop Z x Clearway), ridden by Jude Burgess, finished second and third respectively. CDE Visama Sota (Cornet Obolensky x Action Breaker), ridden by Spain’s Ari González, delivered a notable performance to place fifth.
The 6-year-old final, held in Arena 9 (Guaraná Champeix), brought together 82 participants, with 18 advancing to the jump-off. As in the other two categories, a Spanish combination narrowly missed the podium: Celebrety (Indoctro x Clinton H), ridden by Telmo Busca, finished in fifth place.
Victory went to Corinio Z (Columbus Z x Stakkato Gold), ridden by Britain’s William Rekert, who was the fastest of the ten combinations to complete a double clear. Second place was claimed by Unlimitard Edition JW de Muze (Kasanova de la Pomme x Gemini), ridden by Evelyne Putters, one of the most consistent horses on the circuit in this age group. Umbra DC (Kasanova de la Pomme x Lord Z), ridden by Odile Gierech, completed the podium.
The Andalucía Sunshine Tour is sponsored by the Government of Andalusia, through the Ministry of Tourism and Andalusia Abroad, and by the Provincial Council of Cádiz—an institutional backing that strengthens the event’s international profile and consolidates its sporting, economic, and tourism impact on the region.
