The second week of the XXXII Andalucía Sunshine Tour is now underway at the Dehesa Montenmedio facilities, with young horses taking centre stage on the opening day of this new phase of the longest-running circuit held in Spain.
Competition resumed in Vejer de la Frontera with an intense day marked both by a very high number of entries and an outstanding sporting level. Several classes exceeded one hundred participants, which made it necessary to establish two separate rankings in different categories. Action took place simultaneously across four arenas.
In arena 5 (Milton), the class reserved for 8-year-old horses was contested, attracting more than one hundred starters and resulting in two classifications. In one of them, victory went to Pop Up, a son of Sir Obolensky ridden by Álvaro González de Zárate, who delivered his second consecutive clear round after finishing second last week.
The second classification was topped by Sniper des Lilas Blancs (Hamilton du Chapitre x Calvaro Z), ridden by German rider Kendra Claricia Brinkop, who secured her second win of the circuit after having already claimed a victory the previous week.
The classes for 7-year-old horses were held in arena 8 (Baloubet du Rouet). In the first of these, Ever So Clever GM Z, ridden by Ireland’s Jack Ryan, claimed the win. The son of Emerald out of a Quite Easy mare is enjoying an excellent start to the circuit, having placed among the top contenders in all three classes contested so far.
The second 7-year-old class was split into two classifications due to the high number of participants, more than one hundred, with victories going to Cargese Peguignon Z (Cabrio Z x Darco), ridden by Belgium’s Louis Lambrecht, and Januzaj (Jaloubet K x Cassini), ridden by Czech rider Jaroslav Sima.
In arena 19 (Deister), the two classes reserved for 6-year-old horses were held. The victories went to Thorin von des Mittelerde (Tobago Z x Untouchable), ridden by Germany’s Marius Brinkmann, and to Uquila, the competitive mare by El Barone 111 Z ridden by Jaroslav Sima. This combination has now accumulated five victories this season at Montenmedio, three of them within the framework of the XXXII Andalucía Sunshine Tour.
In this category, Tarmitage once again stood out. The CDE bred and ridden by Jesús Folch, who claimed victory last week, finished fourth on this occasion. Another notable performance came from Project El, by Carrera VDL out of Tanja V by Karandasj, ridden by Álvaro González de Zárate, who placed sixth after completing his third consecutive clear round.
The classes reserved for 5-year-old horses were also held in arena 19 (Big Star). As these were judged without the clock, all combinations finishing without penalties shared first place.
The Andalucía Sunshine Tour thus moves into a new week of competition with massive participation and a high sporting standard. The circuit, which runs over seven weeks, is sponsored by the Regional Government of Andalusia, through the Ministry of Tourism and Andalusia Abroad, and by the Provincial Council of Cádiz, an institutional backing that strengthens its international profile and its sporting, economic and tourism impact on the region.
