Jack Ryan and Edouard Schmitz: the stars of the second day of the CSI3* Andalucía Pre-Sunshine Tour

Vejer, January 23, 2026.

The second day of this CSI3* came to an end with new highlights. Jack Ryan claimed victory in the main class of the day at the CSI3* Andalucía Pre-Sunshine Tour, while Edouard Schmitz stepped onto the podium twice.

Jack Ryan and Keatingstown Mister Cool, a 10-year-old gelding (Messenger x Chacco Blue), dominated the main class of the day at this CSI3*, set at 1.45m, over a technical and fast track. Second place went to Jens Baackmann with Cinderella, while third place was claimed by Rogier Linssen and Commander Lux. All three riders completed both phases without penalties. Castora Ortiz was the best Spanish rider in the class, finishing sixth with Robinson.

In the 1.40m class, Switzerland was in command. Edouard Schmitz returned to the podium, this time with Agassi Z. Germany’s Emilie Pieper completed the rest of the podium, taking second and third place with Pole Position 28 and ABC Saving Grace, respectively. The best Spanish rider in the class was Carolina Villanueva Suárez, competing with Emotion de l'Extases.

In the 1.30m CSI3* class, Chloe Winchester and Exited Z took first place, stopping the clock at 23.67 seconds with no faults. Spain’s Luis Ortiz Agüera finished second with Isseymiyake de Kaps Coco in 23.82 seconds, and Edouard Schmitz with Cadmandu secured third place in 23.86 seconds. Extremely tight times, showing the high level of precision and speed required to claim victory at this Andalucía Pre-Sunshine Tour.

The 1.20m class had a British flavour. Alfie Bradstock with Gladstone took first place, Carola Wegener and Wolf of Wall Street 3 finished second, while Portugal’s Matilde Pais completed the podium with Demi Tour. Spain’s Álvaro Blanco-Traba narrowly missed out on the podium, finishing fourth with Balsamo Beaulieu, and Carolina Aresu García finished sixth with Heritiere du Bary.

Young Horses

Two young horse classes were held today. In the seven-year-old class, victory went to Irish rider Jack Ryan, a regular on the circuit and now starting his third season at the Andalucía Sunshine Tour. This time he topped the podium with Ever So Clever Gm Z (Emerald Van't Ruytershof x Quite Easy), finishing clear in a time of 64.21 seconds. Second place went to Jaroslav Sima with Januzaj, also clear in 65.14 seconds. The podium was completed by Kendra Claricia Brinkop with To Me-K van Kattenheye.

In the five-year-old class, run under Table A without a jump-off, almost all the competitors shared first place, as eleven of the thirteen starters finished on zero faults. Special mention goes to the Spanish riders: Pedro Mateos with Lavezzy du Ouchy, Carlos Lange, who competed this time with two horses — Chubakkos Claus and For Quiwi — and Oliver Glenn Lange with Corna Blue PS.

Regional Classes

In the regional classes, in the 1.00m, Gabriel Kilzie with Cathano 3 and Mª Ángeles Macías with Baron JG finished in first and second place, respectively.

In the 1.10m class, the participation was larger. First place went to Ada Boerlla and Pegasus Jappeloup, second place to Portugal’s Mafalda Reymão with Lady Sobral Da Costa, and third place to Spanish rider Salvador Cámar with Brahms de Lavaure.

The excitement will continue tomorrow at this CSI3* Andalucía Pre-Sunshine Tour, which is sponsored by the Regional Government of Andalusia through the Ministry of Tourism and Andalusia Abroad, and by the Provincial Council of Cádiz.
