Brazilian, Pedro Veniss was on form today with an impressive jump off round in the Andalucía Grand Prix, the highlight of the first ever 4* week here at the fifth Andalucía October Tour. Bringing the tour to an exciting close he won the class with the 14yr old ‘Nimrod de Muze Imperio Egipcio’, who is by ‘Nabab de Reve’ x ‘Tinka’s Boy’, Pedro’s Olympic partner in Paris. This pair have many top results in their resumé, including victory in the Montefalco CSI4* Grand Prix last year and fourth place in the 1.60 GP5 Rolex in La Baule. At the 2023 World Show Jumping Championships, they were fifth in the Nations Cup in Santiago and fourth in the FEI Nations League Final in Barcelona.
Today they took on the challenge in the grass David Broome arena, over a course of 1.55m. There were 14 through to the jump off and the winning time was 38.34s, taking the lead from the French rider, Melissa Garbail y ‘Dandy de L’Eyre’ (‘Iowa’ x ‘Ephebe For Ever*La Silla’), who ended up in third place with a time of 38.63s after a late challenge from the top young Irish rider Niamh McEvoy and ‘Olympic ‘GL’ FVD’ who were last, to go just missing the top spot and taking second in 38.60s.
After the competition, Pedro Veniss told us he was very happy with his horse's performance. “There were many clear rounds in the first round, so the strategy for the jump-off was to try to go very fast, and the horse was once again fantastic in the jump-off”.
Canadian rider, Kyle Timm and ‘Glamour du Chanu’ (‘L’Arc de Triomphe*Bois Margot’ x Papillon Rouge*Normandie’) were fourth and British, Joe Whitaker with ‘Hulahupe Jr’ (‘VDL Bubalu’ x ‘Indoctro’) were fifth.
Italian Luca Moneta and ‘El Capone RK’ won the 4* 1.35, their second win here at the Tour. Second and third were Spanish riders: Patricio Valdenebro del Rey with ‘Klimax Van Het Lindehof’ and Jesús Garmendia Echevarría with ‘Hotshot du Rozel’; fourth was Irish, Alice Wachman with ‘Thijssen SR Z’ and fifth the Zimbabwean, Stephen Wentzel with ‘Katy Perry Terma WM’.
There was a Portuguese winner, Sandra Gaspar Carreira in the 1.25 with ‘Missanga 7’. Second was Spanish, Mario Peña Sánchez with ‘Espoir du Chene’; followed by Irish, Gerard Campbell with ‘Livio’; Hungarian, Nora Jazmin Nagy with ‘Calathea 3’ and Norwegian, Alexandra Cathrine Prag with ‘Leonardo Z’.
There was a British win in the 1.15 from Cassandra Cope with ‘Hamlets Fire’; very closely followed by Sandra Gaspar Carreira, with ‘Hifi’. Lebanese rider, Damien Haddad was third with ‘Harley de Hus’. Fourth and fifth went to Spanish riders Ely Vizcaíno Lawrence with ‘Enzo’ and Juan Miguel Ferrer Riu with ‘Sunshine Magic’.
In the Young Horses; Idole de Hus’ (‘Emerald Van’t Ruytershof’ x ‘Windows VH Costersveld’) once again shone in the 7yr old class with a second win here at the October Tour alongside four other podium finishes, two second places and two thirds, with his rider Luca Moneta. Another youngster accustomed to top placings was second,‘Diamond Heart SN’ with Swedish, Alexander Zetterman at the helm; third was ‘Soretta VD Bisschop’ with Anastasia Nielsen from Monaco; fourth was ‘Ipanema de Lotus’ and fifth was ‘Eldorada Blue Z’ with two Columbian riders, Farid Alejandro Hernández Herrera and Rubén Arroyave.
In the 6yr olds the winner was ‘E-Quality DW Z’ (‘Emerald Van’t Ruytershof’ x ‘Quasimodo VD Molendreef’ with Belgian, Thomas de Wit, their third win here. ‘Kanndy’s Lollipop’ was second with the British 5* event rider, Gemma Stevens; ’Jahnn de Kergane’ with French Arthur Le Vot was third; ‘Cool Jumper HB’ with Canadian, Beth Underhil, fourth and in fifth was ‘My Future Crack’ with German, Stephanie Böhe.
And this brings us to the end of competition here at the V Andalucía October Tour, which is sponsored by the Andalusian Regional Government through the Ministry of Tourism and Andalucía Exterior, and the Provincial Council of Cádiz (Junta de Andalucía a través de la Consejería de Turismo y Andalucía Exterior, y la Diputación Provincial de Cádiz).
However competition continues here at the showground from the 12th to the 16th of November with the Andalucía Championships in both dressage and showjumping.
