Victory for the Spanish rider, Mariano Martínez riding Cleartoon in today’s Ranking class

British rider, Matthew Sampson with Curraghgraigue Obos Flight was second and Canadian rider Kara Chad with Firefly was third

Competition here at the Autumn Sunshine Tour is gaining momentum this week as more riders arrive with their horses.  There are now more than 300 horses competing over the week.  The Young Horses are progressing well over the courses  which are carefully designed to develop and consolidate their training, and this is a great part of the spectacle here at the new Autumn Tour.

The biggest class of the day was the Big Tour, which was set a 1.45m and was held on grass in the David Broome arena. Designed by Javier Trenor the class proved a fair test for the participants. The winner was the Spanish rider Mariano Martínez Bastida who stopped the clock in 60.90sec with Cleartoon, by Carthago and owned by Tania Moody.  Matt Sampson had to make do with second place today, in a time of 61.17sec and just missing out on another victory in this class with Curraghgraighe Obos Flight (Obos Quality 004; Dam Sire Errigal Flight) owned by Rachael Evison.  However he had another reason to celebrate when his horse Firefly, beautifully ridden by the Canadian Kara Chad, took third place close on his heels but just over a second slower.  Firefly W is by Nabab de Reve, and the dam sire is Voltaire.  Anthony Codon with SFS Vincomte was 4th for Ireland and Bruce Goodin from New Zealand was 5th with Backatorps Danny V.

Our regular British winner Kayleigh Watts did not disappoint today winning the 1.35m Medium Class B.  Riding Kimosa Van Het Kritrahof their time was 55.94 seconds beating the Spanish rider, Jesús Garmendia with Valut 2 by just over half a second.  Luca Moneta with Chilli 4 was third.  Mariano Martínez also did well in this class coming 4th with Hellas.

In the 1.30m Medium Class A there was an Irish victory with Tom Wachman riding Cesha Old by Casiro 3 and owned by Coolmore Showjumping. The American Julie Welles, rode Charming Fellow Z in to 2nd place. This horse is by Clinton and owned by Laura Kraut. In third was the Spanish rider Eduardo Álvarez with Caravaggio de Lison Z.

The 1.35m, 7yr old class was held in the main arena today and was a challenging track.  Billy Twomey was the winner for Ireland with the wonderful Je Taime Z (Je T’aime Flamenco; DS Indoctro); second and third places were taken by American riders Julie Welles with Diacasir (Diarado; DS Carolus I) and Laura Kraut with Diadem du Thot (L’Arc de Triomphe*Bois Margor; DS Quick Star).

The 6yr old class had a German winner with David Will back on top of the podium riding Junior Kannan.  In second was the successful Spanish rider Laura Roquet with Giselle and in both 3rd and 5th was the British rider Olivia Skinner con Jobijn and Costa del Sol B Z resp’.  In 4th place was Jose Garcia Diana riding Just Blue RV.

There was another Spanish win for Antonio Mariñas in the 5 yr olds with Kingston Express. 2nd and 3rd places were taken by British riders, Charlotte Geddes with Celeste RBF Z and finally Charlie Jones with Kelling Star.

Tomorrow the Young Horses compete for the last time this week hopefully adding another clear round to their results. There are also 5 other classes including a 1.45m, Longines Ranking class.
